Mike Pattison and crew/family did a great job with the event, as I have heard a number of great things about the race in the past. First impressions were a very nice, big, clean rink, great staff, and an impressive amount of awards and pictures of National Champions on the walls! First look toward the floor, once in the building was that Mike keeps the big 90’ rotunda floor at Pattions west very smooth, fast and clean! Once I got on the floor for the event practice, it met my expectations of how it looked, very fast and tight. Practice was great, A few of us were testing the new Hyper wheels to see what was going to be the best combination, then it was time for them to start the NSC.

Before I write this, remember, this is my opinion, some feel the same, some don’t, so don’t take it to heart.

NSC 3(i think) for 2011 was great racing, missing some of the top guys, but none the less, great racing. There were falls, pushes, bumps, grabs, and upsets, all for what makes great spectator viewing. One of the guys that impressed me, as he always does, was Harry Vogel. He just came off the Ice, no real training/ skating on inlines, and he came out with a mission. He broke (killed) the NSC flying 100m time (he was later barley nudged out by Will Bowen for the win) and had some great finishes in all the races he skated too! Another impressive one was Jake Powers. After being on the ice all winter, he skated very good and as his nickname states, he snaked some points for some great finishes and the overall grand Champion. Overall, I think the Thursday night event was fun and had good racing, much like most invationals were before the NSC came about. That being said, I think that the fact that a lot of the NSC skaters don’t skate invitationals any more is bogus. I have heard (again my opinion) that they are asked not to skate the races, so that the NSC has the best and most exciting racing in the US. I think the NSC concept, much like its predecessor the NSL/US Cup that was done in the early 2000’s could be great for the sport, if done with the best interest of inline speed skating in mind (we all LOVE to do and watch it right?)

Now onto the main reason for the trip to Seattle, the Battle! Great racing was done this past weekend in the north-west, tons of talent is in this area, with no less than 8-10 teams within a very close area, and competition was great. A few races were very close, with some others having 1-2 skaters that were having a great event out in the front with a gap. Chyanna Moses impressed me in her races, so did Carol Pattison, she looked very strong. A few of the guys that stood out were Nathan Jackson and Brandon Hall that def showed up to race. Halfway through Division, I was asked to do a classic pick-a partner with a newer skater, named Bryan Lovelace. In talking to him, I learned he’s been skating about a year, and was a bodybuilder before taking up skating (knew little me was going to get a good push!!) In standing on the line, Bryan informed me he was kinda new at the relay thing, and he really had never done one in competition. I can’t lie, my first thoughts, ok… this is NOT going to be good! (lol) The first relay was a little hairy, but he caught on really quickly and we ended up finishing in 3rd, and personally, I think the race was a blast! Bryan is a super nice guy and glad I got the chance to race with him. Overall I ended up on the silver placement stand in senior men, but I think I got lucky (2nd in senior, me? I’m too old for that!!) In the open I got caught up in some traffic while the front guys were doing fliers, and it took its toll on my legs for the end, much the same in the Champions Race. I guess I need to get some longer outdoor training in huh?

I really enjoyed the Battle for my first time to the north-west, and hope to get back to the area soon. I met some new Skaters, made some friends, and saw a lot of people that I only see a few times a year. Thank you Mike for hosting, and the skaters for providing a great atmosphere!

God bless you all, and I for one am glad it’s getting warmer everywhere for some outdoor racing/training!
Jimmy Blair II

West Palm Track & Road Racing

Its always nice to get to some warmer weather in the middle of winter isn't it? South Fl. was a little warmer, but still cloudy so we didn't see much sun for the time we were there. Our group pulled in Friday night about 8, checked in, then went to grab some pizza for dinner. Got to sleep in a bit on sat. (compared to other races) as the registration and track did not open until 11AM, so that felt good.

Once we got to the track, I started setting up the booth, even before we had anything out, Hyper wheels were flying off the table! Finally got the boots set up after a little time, then went to go warm up. WOW, the wind was intense! I think there were gusts up to 40mph, but it was a 15-20mph wind all afternoon! I love the track in fl, I always feel good on it, but with the wind on sat, i never got comfortable, plus i had a brand new boot on, so that didn't help I'm sure. The tack racing that afternoon and evening was good, good competition, Son from china did really well in the shorter races, Jonathan Blair and Will Bowen(who is expecting his first child in the next 2 weeks) along with Bryan Talley did great in the sprints too. On the girls side, Erin Jackson was the one to beat, but some of the girls from stardust were right there giving her all she could handle! one girl that impressed me was Melanie Bradley who took last year off and is back now, but she looked strong for just coming back to skating. JM won the long race that evening, but what was bad was the racing didn't get over until after 11PM!!! The road was open at 7AM on sun, so it less sleep than anyone wanted.

Road started off cloudy and sure enough, right after the 200m TT, the sky opened up and poured for 3-4 hours. Once it stopped raining, the long races were put before the middle distance since the ground was still wet. There were a few falls in both the men's and women's races due to the fact the pavement was still a little slick. Women's race pretty much stayed together the whole time, with not much excitement. The men's race on the other hand.. WOW.. ALOT of pushing, shoving, hip grabbing, and taunting was going on in the 12.5K elim race. Julian Riveria, Jarrett Paul, and a teammate of Julian's got out front and never looked back. That left everyone else in the pack, just simply racing for bragging rights, since the 3 top placements were gone. Joey tried to catch the breakaway a few times, but was unsuccessful, so he came back to the pack to taunt and pick on some of the skaters(for what reason is a mystery). I saw him doing alot of pushing and hip grabbing for what he eventually got DQ'd for. Once he got DQ'd instead of moving to the right and leaving the track, he moved to the left right in front of 2 skaters(myself being one of them), blocking on an elimination lap. The mark of a champion? or a sore loser? I dont know. I pushed him out of the way (he is a stout guy, since I'm only like 155 he was hard to move), and the other skater shoved him out of his path also, what resulted in him falling and laying there for a few laps. The 2nd skater was dq'd for "knocking joey down" and eventually got revoked from the event for injuring the great JM. (who was fine the next race). I was the closest to the action so I saw everything, I just wish there were more ref's to see stuff, and skaters to stand up for what is correct.

Overall, IMO, this was the worst ran PBC that I have ever been to, not because of the rain because we cant help that. The races ran late, it was unorganised, and there were only 2 referees on the road! There are supposed to be a min. of 5 on a track that big!

Well, thats my review, only my opinion of course, the next event is Hickory, Squiggy, then the St. Pattys Speed Weekend in Georgia, March 19-21 with the MAIN EVENT happening on Fri night! You WONT want to miss that one!!!

Look out for the announcement of the full Pinnacle/CCN factory team, skating on the #1 wheel, Hyper, and the best frame on the market, ION frames.

God bless everyone, get out to do some skating, training, help someone else with something they are struggling with, and remember.. keep it clean!

January 6th, 2006..

A day that I will never forget. I was leaving Atlanta to head to a clinic in NJ.. I walk into my parents house that morning for a ride to the airport, and I will never forget the look on my dads face when he walked around the corner... He was crying, and put his arms out to hug me, and i didn't know why, but i extended my arms also for a reason that was unknown. As soon as we embraced, I cant ever forget the words he told me, "Jeff was in an accident this morning and was killed"... I dropped what i had in my hands, (shocks to my suburban) and lost it. He was my mentor. He was one of my best friends. He taught me what i do. Next to my Father, he was one of the best men that i will ever know. I went to NJ and made it about halfway through the clinic and practice. After that, i was like a lost little puppy, I didn't know what to do. Finally, I caught a earlier flight back to Atlanta, and had one of the longest weeks of my life.

He lit the room up when he walked in, He was always smiling, and very, very rarely did he ever show his anger. He worked from not knowing anything about prosthetics, to basically running SPS. He could build orthopedics, prosthetics, and learned how, with me by his side, to build speedskating boots. I could write all day about what he could do, what he was, and just plain how cool he was. Jeff is the reason why Pinnacle is even alive today. Without him, who knows what I would be doing, where I would be. I don't think there is anything he wouldn't try to do..

I have so much more, but really.. I cant write any more...

Jeff Green, I thank you for everything. I thank you for teaching me, for the laughs, for the ability to have a carrier that I love. I miss you.. RIP man... Ill see ya again someday....

God Bless, hug a loved one.. please..

2009...

5 more hours and its history... Wow, what a year!!! It FLEW by in my eyes. Happy New Year, and be safe!

Talk again next year.

God Bless

Little quick hint..

Its wintertime,.. I love the holidays, family, Christmas, giving, all that stuff.. What I don't like about this time, is the cold! Most skaters 1) don't skate in the winter, or 2) just skate inside as the weather is to cold for outside skating. Most rinks have floors that are less than grippy in the winter also. Skaters struggle to skate on a slick floor and to really get a great technical workout because they are fighting to floor to only stand up. Some skate on outdoor wheels but you usually get a "floating" feeling if on outdoor wheels because they are soft and NOT indoor wheels.

I have a solution! For the past few weeks while at practice, I have(along with some others) been testing and skating on Hyper composite 86A outdoor wheels. Yes, they are outdoor wheels. No they don't skate like an outdoor wheel, indoor. The secret is the hub that is in the wheels, they are stiffer and don't compress under the pressures of indoor skating(99% of other hubs do). So the end result is a wheel that feels like you are skating on a very soft indoor wheel, and don't get the floating feeling. If you are on a floor that is slick this winter, I would encourage you to try the wheels to get some grip and feel better during practice.

Another reason to try them, is that they are all on sale right now! all of the current 2009 wheels are on sale for 2 for 1! If you buy one set, you get another for FREE! This past weekend, I along with Jonathan, Corey Gahan, and Alex Harris were all on them to make sure that they will help you out from the headaches of a slick floor.

If you have any questions go ahead and ask me.

God bless, great skating, and have a great family filled December!
Jimmy

Water under the bridge..

Yep, down here in the South we have gotten ALOT of it! God gave us 2-3 years of extreme dry years, then about starting 9-10 months ago, gave us all 3 years worth back!! We got about 5-6 inches in the past 36 hrs..

So,... yea, about that title.. Its been awhile.. I hope everyone is doing great, we have had a ton of events happen in very recent past. Nira Nationals, US10K, Worlds, NY100K, Duluth, A2A, and the most recent, NSC.

NSC 1 was, well.. different.. The concept of it seems awesome. A little of PRO Division, US Cup, and Roller Derby all wrapped up in something that could be marketed to the masses, something we need in my opinion.

If this comes off as dogging the NSC, that's not what I want to do.. I would love to see it prosper. *Ladies.. They are needed for fill time, there was alot of down time. I mean, Joey is cool to look at, but looking at him in a red/white/blue silioute is only good for so long LOL.
*Commentary.. More than one person talking, while the raffles are going on, something for the net to look at other than that.
*Time.. 130 AM hurt the next day for most of us on the Right coast!

There are a bunch of other things, and I might mention to the promoters if they will listen..

Worlds 09, The USA got 4th overall.. not bad at all, but we could have done better with changing a few things.. Joey did alot with his 7 Gold medals, and so did Justin Mannon and Erin Jackson. I think if the US came together a little more we could accomplish being back in the top 3. Coaches need to be a little more involved in the skaters lives, training, and how each skater is different, both mentally and physically. I have said a few things about the coaching, wont say it online, but I do believe that the coaching this year was not one of the best years for the US. Nothing against Buggy and Chris personally at all though..

NIRA/US10K.. Was a huge success! numbers were up across the board. Live feed was great and I think alot of people enjoyed it. Next year we look to have more skaters make there way to Atlanta for these events.. It is an AWESOME weekend, and if you missed it, you REALLY missed it!

Gotta get back to workin, God Bless, type soon..

you just gotta stop and smell the roses sometimes..

Hey everyone, I hope things are going well for everyone. I have been nonstop since getting back from indoor nationals, now that my arm is letting me work again, that's all i feel like i have been doing! I'm heading to a clinic this weekend, I hope it goes well, and the "students" learn alot from me.

I got this in an e-mail from my Mom, but it wasn't one of those annoying chain e-mails, it was just something that made me smile and think a little. Read each one, and if you want to, read each one twice.. you will smile.

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
18.. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood.. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
25. Frame every so-called disaster with these words ''In five years, will this matter?".
26.. Always choose life.
27. Forgive everyone everything.
28.. What other people think of you is none of your business.
29. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.
30. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
31. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
32. Believe in miracles.
33. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.
34. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
35. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
36. Your children get only one childhood.
37. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
38. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
39. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
40. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
41. The best is yet to come.
42. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
43. Yield.
44. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

God bless yall, see ya in a few weeks at NIRA and the US10K!

The long day.....

This has been a long day.. first thing this morning, around 9:15 I watched as once again, we were denied the Olympics... denied the chance to win an Olympic medal in the sport that i have basically dedicated my life to. I live and breathe inline skating. My job is skating, when i go skating, i feel freedom. When i talk on the phone, its almost always something about skating. Most of my friends are skaters, or involved in skating. When i go on vacation, its to a race. So, needless to say, my life is skating, and family of course.

Now that i have said that, that i absolutely love skating, here is what i think about the decision...

We have been skating for decades, without being in the Olympics, do we NEED to get in to survive? no, we don't. We have proven that every four years that goes by that we don't get in, we still skate. The skaters that are "lifers" will continue to do what we do. I think that we will loose some of the fastest skaters to ice, but that will let a new breed in for a new face of skating. There will still be races, indoor, outdoor, track and road, and we will all still love the fact that we can strap on our boots and go for a skate. I'm still going to build boots for inline skating, and will try to get a small hand(or foot) in the ice market also. Will I go to ice? nah, its too cold for me. I will still enjoy heading to bluegrass where we skate, and do loops to clear my head, and enjoy the outdoor air!

I have said this before, as others have.. Inline skaters are some of the most fit, in shape, and healthiest athletes in the world! We will still strive for the top spot in the greatest sport in the world (ours), and that is being a world champion. A WORLD CHAMPION.. wow.. that is big, seriously, how many of your friends can say they are a world champion? That's a big deal! Even if you will never get to that point, whatever you want in your skating career is still great! a regional champ? that is awsome.. if you win your local league meet? congratulations!!! whatever you can do, is a personal best and that will live with you for the rest of your life.. you strive to be the best you can? That will teach you to be the best in your future job. So, we didn't get in.. again.. oh well... we still have a bunch to skate for!

Now i don't have the answer to "grow" our sport at all.. to be honest, I'm not sure anyone does.. The way that we would eventually get in the Olympics would be to be in the media, TV, movies, papers, etc.... The way to get in the media is to have major sponsors that pour tons of cash into advertising. To get sponsors to see us is to be on TV.. see what I'm getting at here? we are stuck between a rock, and a really hard place. I hope that everyone can work together to build up skating in the public eye, we could use it..

So, we aren't in the Olympics.. eh, whatever.. do i wish we got in? yes, very much so! do i think that we will still continue to do what we do? yep, of course!

Well, I think my wife wants me to get off here, yall get out and tell some people about the greatest sport on earth! Go skate, stay healthy, safe, and God bless ya!!!!!!

ODN is over, IDN is soon, Team is picked!

Well, its been awhile.. a really long while really.. Ive been busy with work, family and alot of injuries this year.. Let me tell you, injuries SUCK! i wont bore y'all and "complain" about all of them, but the latest one is really keeping me down in skating, and just life in general.. it sux tearing a rotator cuff..

So, IDN is right around the corner, like 12 days away? wow.. this year has seriously flown by. It seems like yesterday we were at Greensboro! I hope everyone is ready for Indoor Nationals, and even if you aren't, its gonna be fun anyway, you get to see all your friends that you haven't seen in months... So, if you are getting excited, AWESOME, nervous? don't be! skating is fun, remember that!!!

Outdoor Nat's just finished up, the world team is picked, and i must say, there are ALOT of new faces this year on all the teams, SR women especially. I hope for all the best for the team, and i hope that they will do the US proud!

That brings me to my next thoughts... and i have talked to alot of people about this, some agree, alot don't. Outdoor nationals, what is it? is it simply the time to pick the SR/JR world team? or is it actually a United states Outdoor nationals? why do we put so much emphases on Indoor Nationals(upwards of 800-1000 skaters), but not on Outdoor Nationals(150-175 skaters)? I know that there is more divisions, etc in indoor, but there still should be allot more skaters going to ODN!!! Justin Stelly made the SR world team again this year. He deserved it, he skated awesome for it, he earned it, but he turned the spot down to focus on the 2010 Olympic games in Feb.

Now this is where people don't agree with me... Do it think Stelly would make the SR team more of a force? yes, he has the experience to bring. Do i think it was a bad decision NOT to accept the position? No, i don't.. ODN is just that, a outdoor NATIONAL competition! The world team is just picked there by who does the best overall. Its not called the "World team tryouts", but that is what it is looked at now, simply the event to pick the world team.

I think more coaches need to get there skaters to go to ODN, because that is where you are going to move forward in this sport. being a national champion is awesome, trust me, but being an indoor AND outdoor national champion? that's great!! Plus, if you do well enough, you can earn a spot to represent this country at worlds!!

Corey Gahan (sp) won the 500m on the road of I'm not mistaken. He is a SR world team alternate also. But here is the kicker.. he is already a NATIONAL CHAMPION, and "nationals" has not even happened yet!

To me, going out to ODN, is just like going to IDN. you are trying to be the best against your competition.. if you win, place, or even get a top 10 finish, you can be proud of that... I haven't gone to outdoor nationals in years, as I haven't had the extra money, time off of work, etc, but every year I wish i was out there.. not to "make the team", but just to have a blast skating on a great track, and enjoying the competition... That is what this sport is all about....

Coaches, get your skaters to ODN next year, the sport needs you to..

God Bless all of ya, and see ya in a few weeks!

Spring time

Well, i haven't had a chance to write anything lately, and i have a few things on my mind, but it will have to wait for a few days.. I just have a few min right now.

Its spring! its getting warmer up north, its finally steadily warm here, it was 71 today, and i love it!! Then... Now...

Over the past few days this has been brought up a few times on a message board, in person, e-mail, etc.

A long time ago, USAC (now USARS) did not allow skaters to have known sponsors. There were many reasons, and some are seen today. The mid to late 90's were FILLED with sponsorships from all kinds of company's, ranging from product, all the way to paying skaters large amounts of money for a paycheck. Geo/Rollerblade, Hyper, EC Beast, Rollerblade, Terminator, Miller, Labeda, Ultimate,.. I could go on ALL DAY on past sponsors that have thrown in tons of money to athletes. I was lucky enough to see it happen then, but I am also lucky enough to BE a sponsor today. Let me tell you, its ALOT different today, than it was 10-15 years ago.

As everyone knows there just is not as many skaters skating in the US now, less at the races, less at practice, less on the road and trails. Less skaters, means less profit for company's to put back into the athletes. I wish that I could do more for my skaters, but especially now, less people are going to races that means less product is getting sold.

Today's sponsorships in the US (save for a few elite skaters), are product only, and minimal product at that. Gone are the days of getting hotel rooms, plane tickets, perdium, gas money, and more, getting taken care of. Now with the company's making less profit, they cant pay for all of that. Skaters are lucky to get what they can now. Don't get me wrong, some are very grateful for anything that they can receive, but some others i guess saw what it was years ago, and don't understand now..

I wish I could pay for some flights for my skaters, I wish i could take care of all the rooms at hotels, but its different nowadays. Skaters don't get a "paycheck" now, but what they can do is sell product for there sponsor. If you sell product for your sponsor, you could get a kickback for the profit made. If you do your job, perform on the track, and sell product, then you are doing what you need to do for the person/company that is helping you.

I'm not trying to pick on anyone, just wanted to give a little insight to what most "sponsorships" are now.

God bless everyone, and I hope all of you are healthy and skating.

Don't forget to turn your clocks this Saturday night!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jimmyblair.blogspot.com/2009/03/sponsership-then-now.html' title='Sponsership... Once we got back home, i thought that it would take me about a day to catch up, sleep, brain, you know, just to get my marbles back. Boy was I wrong! It seems like every year after Roanoke, people get sick, it might be the amount of people in there, it might be the dust that the fans draw in from outside, whatever it it, its NOT fun. I have heard of quite a bit of people that have come down with something this year from VA, I hope that everyone is getting over it and back to skating by now!

The Races...

Could there have been closer, more exciting races? I dunno, but I know there was ALOT of them!!! IT seemed like every division was close this year, from the young kids, all the way up to the "older" divisions. Some of the races were SO exciting to watch, awesome effort by the skater in first all the way to 6-7th place. I was going to throw some names up her that impressed me, but there were so many, it would take me all day, so I will just say this, EVERYONE skated GREAT this year!!!

The Products...

Yea, I'm talking wheels.. I skated on Hypers and loved them. I saw alot of people skating on atoms, they liked them it seemed also. I did hear from some people that the Hypers felt faster, but the atoms were holding the floor a little more. I dunno, but i think that there is a reason that Hypers sold out the first day!!! I'm glad that wheels are back on track, the past year has been a hit and miss, so I'm excited that wheels are not going to hold us back any more!

The Location...

VA, the middle of the east coast, a great place to hold a meet, and it shows! The rink and its owners were more than hospitable, parking was cramped, sitting was cramped, but hey, you cant push out the walls, you get what you have!! The floor was pretty good, except the dust that is a problem every year, the floor held good when it was clean.

Overall, Mary, you did it great again this year! Next is Wichita, then Lawrenceville,GA (another big one you DONT want to miss), and then the 4 races over Easter. Regionals is coming up fast, keep your head straight, and you mind focused for the end of the year!!

I will say this, because this is me, and what i believe, God bless, and may he keep everyone safe!

The delayed blog post...

Well, where do i begin? Welcome back! "as the wheel turns", I think that is what we need to start calling this lovely sport that we are all stuck in! LOL Don't get me wrong, I live, and breathe for skating. Besides my family, this is what i live for... Skating.... I don't think that I would change ONE thing about my life, i do what i love to pay the bills, i see my son whenever i want (even though 24 hrs a day isn't enough), I travel to races, see my friends, and make new friends at the races, and most of all, I skate, and in my opinion God has blessed me to be as good as i am, with very little training.

That brings me to my next point..

Humility... Its a strong word, but not a word that gets brought up enough, or shown enough. I have had my fair share of NOT being humble, i regret EVERY single one of them when i look back. Is it called confident? maybe cocky? just plain good? whatever you call it, at the end of the day, its nothing without being humble. God gave you the ability, he has the right to snatch it right away.

Humble.. "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Humility, or being humble, is the defining characteristic of an unpretentious and modest person, someone who does not think that he or she is better or more important than others. The opposite of humility is pride"

I try to think that i have learned, by doing, I try to be one of the most sportsmanlike, humble, God-fearing skaters on the floor, and i learned by my parents teaching me(thanks dad, mom!), and by my actions in the past that have embarrassed me by doing stuff i regret.

I skated against someone in Roanoke that got 4th place in our division. He was the only one that placed in both races, but was just off of the podium in 4th. Even still, he was the most cheerful, nicest (as he is always), and was just what you want a champion to be, win, lose, DQ, fall, no matter what,.. still humble.. Nick, Keep doing what you do.. You are a champ in my eyes!

I have read alot of stuff over the past few days, some of what floored me, some didn't surprise me, some i was just appalled by. I won nationals this past year (yes in the old classic division), but i will be the first to admit that God helped me, a little natural ability, and the love for skating had alot to do with it. I try to be the best on the floor, off the floor, and to the kids that i can possibly be, and i know that if got cocky, confident, whatever, people would start to "hate" on me, and rightfully so. One of the thinks that i read was that to be a champion, you have to think you are a champion, and i agree with that, but it goes back to what the little wiki dictionary said..defining characteristic of an unpretentious and modest person, someone who does not think that he or she is better or more important than others.

As a national champ even I know i can get beat, heck, i did in Greensboro. But i know that with my accomplishments, comes alot of responsibility, and alot of kids looking up to myself, and others. If humility means you are weak, because you don't think of yourself better than others, then please, call me weak next time you see me, it would be a compliment.

A Roanoke review will be next.. (yea, another one) LOL

Until them, God bless, and PLEASE, stay humble, for the next generation of skaters!!!

whos a keeper in your life?

To A Keeper

"One day a mother died. And on that clear, cold morning, in the warmth of her bedroom, the daughter was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any more.

No more hugs, no more lucky moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to chat, No more 'just one minute' Sometimes, what we care about the most goes away. never to return before we can say good -bye, Say 'I Love You.'

So while we have it ... it's best we love it ... And care for it and fix it when it's broken and take good care of it when it's sick.

This is true for marriage.....and friendships

And children with bad report cards; And dogs with bad hips; And aging parents and grandparents We keep them because they are worth it, Because we cherish them!

Some things we keep -- like a best friend who moved away or a classmate we grew up with. There are just some things that make us happy, No matter what.

Life is important, and so are the people we know And so, we keep them close! "

I couldn't help but get misty eyed when i read this, i have lost alot of friends in my 28(ok almost 29) blessed years here, and i hate it,.. every bit of it, the thoughts, the feelings, the coping, the emptiness, everything about it..

I was on the phone with a friend yesterday, and got the news that a girl that i had met just 2 weeks ago was killed in a car accident on saturday. She was only 22, freak accident, she left behind 2 kids, 3 and 1. It shows, you have to keep your loved ones close!

The one thing, and there is only one thing that you can smile about at bad times, is God has a plan, even if its not your plan, God has a time for everyone to pass on, and hopefully, you will get to see them again one day!!

See alot of you guys in Roanoke in 4 days!!! I always spent time with him before, but now its one-on-one, and i could not be happier! Last night we watched CARS together, for the 7th day in a row, but last night, he sat right next to me the whole time with my arm around him. NOTHING in this world has the same feeling, him being born, my marriage, winning nationals, skating, work, designing new products, it all feels/felt great and i will never forget any of it, but having your child cuddle up next to you is like nothing in the world. 3, 4 years ago, i never would have pictured myself where I am now, especially with a girl that i had not even met yet! God places crazy things in your lap, and you have to deal with them the best way you know how, and I hope that i will continue to do what he wants me to do.

Well, i gotta go get some more work done before Kelli leaves, talk soon!

Welcome 2009, New... EVERYTHING!!

Welcome back everyone! Its been a minute since i last posted, work, wife, son, a little of everything has been in the way, but I'm back :)

Well, its 2009, man, how time flies! It seems like just a few years ago I was skating junior division, and first years of senior!!!

So, its a brand new year, we have new races(and old), new skaters(i hope alot of them), and a new president of USA. I will start off by saying that I did not vote for Mr. Obama, but I really hope he can do a good job these next 4 years, I know he had started off on a good foot, so, only time will tell. I will say, may God be with him, and I will pray for guidance for him.
I have heard the numbers are down with USARS, and alot of skaters are not renewing there cards, well, we need them back! I urge you to get those skaters back and get more skaters to the races! Georgia has lost alot of skaters in the past few years, but we are working to get more back into this wonderful spot that we love!

2009, it seems like its not even real, like a futuristic number, I never thought we would get here, and so soon!, but who thought that I would be married with a child too!!! LOL!

'09 kicked off with a bang, and the first major race of the year was a hit!, the indoor portion left alot to be desired, but the track and road portion left a lasting impression!

Joey once again proved why he is one of the best skaters in the world, by winning the overall points title. Jorge Botero proved that he also is in the books are one of the greatest skaters of all time by challenging joey in quite a few races, and at 33 years old!!! William Bowen was on track to really give Joey a run in all of the races, but 100 meters into the 300m time trial, he fell hard and injured his elbow that I'm sure took a toll on the rest of his races, but he did come back and run a 15.8 200m time to win the road TT in front of joey, and Jonathan Blair. That's a kid that has desire. Jonathan is 15, and wants nothing more than to be at the top, and is well on his way too! He pushed the pace in the 500m track race, and just walked away from the pack with only Joey tight on his heels, Mantia passed him with 200m to go, and they clicked toe wheels and Jonathan went down, but if he hadn't, he would have been right behind joey for a solid 2nd place finish. Harry Vogel in his 2nd year back showed his strength in every race, and was right there at the top showing his world champ status and the reason he is and was such a great asset for the US team! There were others worth noting, but I'm sure y'all have read the reports and have seen names.

A few of the age division skaters that impressed me and I have to give mention to though... JT Taylor, 12, has only been skating for 6 mos, and took top honers in the 300m in front of great young skaters like Justin Sterling, Dustin Hebson, and Dylan Stegall. Justin took the overall points award for track and road. Scott Thomas, Master, showed his strength by winning quite a few races in his division, and he was a novice last year!

Well, I guess that's it for now, I hope that the weather gets a little warmer for everyone so more skating can be done soon! this 35 degree stuff is for all of the northerners, not us southerners!!!!
Take care, Skate safe, make your plans to come to Ga march 20-22, and see y'all in Roanoke!!!

God Bless!!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jimmyblair.blogspot.com/2009/01/welcome-2009-new-everything.html' title='Welcome 2009, New... They went alllll out on impressing the athletes, media, and the whole world. Great job China!

Michael Phelps, Shawn Johnson, the US runners, amazing performances.. I hope that team USA can continue that with the Inline World Championships coming up here just a handful of days from now! GO RED, WHITE, and BLUE!!!!

Just a quick thing also. At practice yesterday we had a talk about effort. When you practice/train, make sure you are putting for 110% effort in everything that you are working on. Right now indoor, working on plyo's, strength, core, and outdoor, keeping your strength up, making sure you have that sprint at the end... work to 100% of your ability, especially when you have those off days! When you don't feel good, push that much harder because THAT is when you are going to get better!

until next time, God Bless, and go do some "rollerblading"!

Do you take it for granted?

I was at the gas station today with my wife and her friend, about to head to Chick-fil-A (yumm), thinking that it was a beautiful day, 83, sunny, slight wind.. a great day to go skate, head to the lake, anything but do something inside!
All of the sudden i heard it, you know, THAT sound. Metal hitting metal, scraping, crushing, glass breaking, tires screeching, that thud that is like fingernails across the chalkboard, it makes the hair on your neck stand and your heart skip a beat. I looked over and saw a mini-van, well, with a 15mo old myself i thought the worst,.. kids in the car, Then i saw what hit them as soon as i started running over to see if everyone was OK, a semi-truck! When i got close i saw that there was no-one in the back seats, but i saw that it was an elderly couple. It looked like a pretty bad wreck, driver door was slammed into and wouldn't open, airbags out, dash pushed close to the front seats, front tire bent in half. There was already someone talking to the gentleman, who looked worse than his wife, so i checked on her, as she looked rattled and worried. I opened the door making sure it wouldn't disturb her or move anything that shouldn't have been moved to see how she was. Turns out she just had some minor cuts and scrapes from the glass, but i don't know what else, since she went to the hospital and we didn't. The Gentleman was in worse shape, he was pinned in the car from the door, it looked like his arm might have been broken, his knee was already swelling, and he had quite a few cuts all over too. He looked very short of breath and panicky, so we all tried to calm him, and his wife down to relax themselves. His wife told us he was on some medication for his heart, so we were praying NOT for the worst of course! After a few min, right before the cops and firefighters got there, he started getting color back and breathing more normally. HE even threw in a joke when we told him not to move and just keep relaxed, "well, i don't think i can go anywhere else anyway!" he said. About that time the officers shuffled us away so they could do there jobs, so we walked away hoping for the best for both of them. I gotta thank my wife since she was a first responder in MN, she helped out ALOT.
We haven't heard anything since, but i do wish to know how everything turned out and that both were OK. The truck driver was fine, as his truck was so much bigger than the van.

It made me think all day, any minute, any time, any day, even in 15 min, something could happen that changes all of your plans. Be it for just that day, or a week, or even you or your family's whole life... Makes ya think... Its things like this that make me strive even harder to make sure that i try not to wrong anyone, and keep my friends and family close, and make sure that if something WERE to happen, that not one person could say anything bad about me. Dont take waking across the street, driving down the road, even going skating, for granted, because at any time, something could happen.

Hope this wasn't to long, it took me long enough to type it! Take care, and sit back and think.... God Bless all of ya!

Mornin!

Well, Ive been thinking this morning a little, with the Olympics going on, all the races around, residency, just getting finished with Indoor nats, etc.

First of, congratulations to all of the competitors at IDN, and a special congrats to the medal winners, and record breakers (theres alot!). Alot of the divisions were very close this year, and it could have been whoever who ended up medaling. Senior men for instance had at least 6-7 skaters that were easily fast enough to wind up in the top 3, but as we know, there is ONLY the top 3! Kevin Pearsall, i thought was the one to win, ans i would have put my money on him, but in the last race, he ahs a mental block and was not in the right place at the right time. It has happened to all of us, myself more than i want to admit too! It ended up that Kevin got a bronze medal, which is fantastic, but it could have been any of 6-7 skaters in that positition. Another division was freshman ladies, SUCH awesome racing, along with sophomore men, there were easily 4 skaters that could have won or got a silver, but with falls, dq's, and bad placement, it happened that 3 skaters were left looking at someone else skating up and getting the gold (yes, I'm proud, it was my brother Jonathan).

Point is, if you placed, awesome!, if you didn't, you are just about there, so work to get there! It really is a great feeling having your name called up to the podium, especially the top of it! Another thing, to the skaters that won, keep your head on straight, you have no idea who is looking at you wanting to be in your position in the next few years. If you act out in any way, that kid that idolizes you, might be disappointed, or worse, act the same way. Just because you won, placed, set a record, or even won your semi, you have no right to be arrogant about it, proud yes, but not arrogant. It might be how I was brought up, i try to be the to one to congratulate everyone, no mater if you, OR I came in first or last, but i have even had to check myself a time or dozen in the past and I'm sure i will in the future. Remember though, God gave you the ability, he can take it away in the blink of an eye!

I had more to write, but i will do it later Ive got to get back to building the boots by the skater for the skater... ;) take care and God bless

A beginning.... 8-8-08

Well, I did it... Actually, let me rephrase that... WE did it. Kelli and I are officially married! We went down to Destin Fl, because her dream was to be married on the beach, so we made it happen. we both surprised our parents with plane tickets(and a ride) there, because both of us really didn't feel right if they weren't. Let me tell you this, i am SOOOOO happy right now! God allowed it to happen with less than 5 days of planning, so yea, you can call it a shotgun wedding! LOL The ceremony was beautiful with the sun setting in the distance, but it was not as beautiful as my bride walking down the beach in the most beautiful wedding dress, and looking more radiant than i can even describe! (think i am a proud husband?)

All I will say, is it was a perfect weekend, other than her mom getting stung by a jellyfish. I thank God that my dad, mom, mother and father in-law got to attend and witness it.

OK, enough about me, here is the juicy stuff!

I get back on Monday and had been getting calls ALL day. This, that, whens my boot ready, you need to order this.. etc.. and i think wow, can i go back to FL????? HAHAHA I have heard some about residency, how the kids and adults and coaches are skating, acting and performing. It all sounds like we might do pretty well at worlds this year! Some squabbling here and there should be addressed, but I'm not there, so i cant really speak my mind in all honesty. I hope everyone just keeps working as hard as they can to do put on the best performance that the US can!

Another thing that is on my mind... Typically the best/most popular indoor skaters are from the east coast, as deserved, because most of the huge indoor meets are over here(Greensboro, Roanoke, Georgia). But (imo) the most recognised Outdoor skaters are from the Midwest. There are ALOT of races in the Midwest area, it seems like if you live around there, you get a very good cance to hit a race at least every other weekend there! I think we need more races ALL around the country indoor and outdoor.. Inline planet, skatelog, are all great sites to promote the races and the sport. Also, i think clinics are very good to help new skaters get started in skating, and get them introduced to some of the more elite skaters and maybe start some friendships. If you can get to a clinic or two and help a skater, learn new things, or just support a good cause, make some plans!!!

Until next time, .. Take care, and God bless!!

PS, you thought you were gonna read about that other blog, lol naw, its not worth my time...

Nationals v08.20

Well, the 2008 indoor season is over! and what a year! im exaused from the drive home, so this will be short, and i will post another after a good night of sleep.
All i have to say is WOW! something like 86 records!!!?? everyone was FLYING, and i mean EVERYONE. I have to give it up to 2 skaters(there are tons more though) that i think should be MVP of '08 nats, Kimani Griffen, and Jonathon Blair! Kimani won everything he was in but the 2 man(fell), and shattered a bunch of records, Jonathon got 5 national records and was passing like i used to be able to(lol) pulled off a win in division, in the sophomore 2 man, 2nd in the 2mix and 4 mix too. Those skaters stick out like no others, so i give my votes for MVP's to those two. Some others, adn i know im forgetting some, are Harry Vogel, that man is hauling(with a broken collarbone), Will Bowen, 08 world class champ, Walter Langley, Kirstin from piedmont, Bobby Young, Mike Fortner, Dane Lewis, and there are more that i will say tomorrow too.

I hope every has gotten home safe, A big shout, and thank you to anyone who came to the after national party, we raised about $350 bucks for the jr world team! thank you!

Nationals, version 08.14

Well, we are all here, 2nd day of racing and i think the big talk this year is about how fast the floor is!! Carter, Steve Carter, etc. Well, yesterday his daughter went in for brain surgery, as far as i have heard everything went smoothly. But she, along with the family needs prayers and support! This doesn't mean blow up his phone, email, my space,.. all you need to do is say a little prayer asking God to lay his hand on them right now.. As most of you know Jada has had a few health problems in her so far short life, so God can help.. as he always can. So, all you need to do is just say a little quick prayer, its not hard, and doesn't take long!

Thanks for the read!

PS, happy early b-day Steve!!!

4th of July, You know whats comming!

Well, things have been quiet here, just work work, along with life, trying to get the tahoe back to normal and my back straight from the accident. Those kids jsut LOVE the skating!!

Another great time is seeign all teh new products that are out. Im excited to see the new Hyper and Matter wheels, i know Hyper has a trade show booth, and the Matter wheels will be in the Danger booth. Sounds like Liberty sports/ION will have a new frame out, i knwo it looks AND performes SWEET! just you wait for that! There is a new company called anabolix with some very affordable skates and some soft goods, look for them later in the week. You cant forget about Pinnacle (me) eather, i will have new practice chothing, and mabye a few more new things if i can get them done in the next 2 weeks (ahhh)!!! come by to check me out when you get there. I got this e-mail this morning and i had to sit back and chuckle to myself,
""I knocked at heaven's door this morning. God askedme...'My child, what can I do for you?' And I said, 'Father, pleaseprotect and bless the person reading this message.' God smiled andanswered...'Request granted'. 'Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind ofbattle.' When Jesus died on the cross, he was thinking of you!""
From all i am thinking about, streesed about, worried, and concerned, its STILL not as bad as what some people are going through. If you read this, take time to hug and kiss your loved ones, and make sure thy know yoa love em, no matter what is happening at the time!

I hope everyone is skating GREAT as IDN is what, like 19 days away? This is in no way a a cry out for pitty,.. just letting off a little steam ya know? My A/C finally got fixed, well, one of them, the other isnt yet, at least it cooled down a little outside! My sewing machine is fixed after a week of being out of commision, i didnt think i used it to the point that i am at a standstill without it though. I found out today that my house needs a roof on it (grrr) soon and theres some rotten wood under the shingles. Practice today just didnt go well for me.. my legs hurt, i kept tying my skates to tight, or too loose, my motivation wasnt there, and i couldnt breath cus my nose was stuffed up. THEN to top off the day, Kelli was driving home from practice and a guy pulled out right in front of us and we plowed into him. God was watchign us, because no-one was hurt, but the Tahoe is in rough shape now! Then we find out that the driver dosent have a liscense, just a passport.. so i dont know what we are gonna do now. Eather way, i know God is in control and he will make sure it all works out.

Okay, enough of the rant.. my steam is gone :)

Thanks for the comments yall have sent me.. it made me glad that i am taking a few min out to write whats on my mind every day or two. One of the topics that has been brought up is the drinking and young skaters. I know it happens, do i agree with it, not one bit, but what can i do? Bring it to the attention of everyone? YEP, try to make the guilty feel guilty? YEP Im not going to be the one who calls the cops, or tells tells the parents, but i will tell yall, i DONT condone it, and i wont sponser a skater that does it eather! Im in this to help the sport, not to jsut make money.. and underage drinking is not what helps us, i know this! Another thing is PED's, but thats another post..

Hope yall enjoyed, have a GREAT weekend!!!!! and GO SKATE!!!

Welcome/ODN is over for '08

I have to thank you for reading, its my first blog... im gonna try to post as much as i can, about as much as i can... I will be blunt and to the point in some of these blogs, thats why i made it, and its your choice to read or not! I hope no-one getts offended, its just the way I see things! If there is anything yall want answered, let me know!!

Well, ODN is over for the year, i wish i could have made it out there this year, who knows, mabye next year. We have been gettign my brother Jonathan ready for it the past few months, but after the track portion, i was gettin a little worried, im not gonna lie! He steped it up on road big time though as i think he was more comfertable on the road and he hadent ever skated on the Co track. I gotta give a BIG shout out to him for making the team though, his first time ever trying out, he made it, adn he has 3 years of Jr left too, so i see a big future for him!

I gotta give it up to harry too, he fell the last day of track and ripped and pulled tendons in his shoulder off the bone, the doc told him not to even THINK about skating, well.. (as we know) Harry wont listen, he wanted on the team, and he made it happen! Now, Dane.. WOW, i cant even express how excited i am for him, from what i heard, he made all the skaters race the way HE wanted.. and it worked! B. Bowe, skating road only and making it, big ups!
I heard there was some drama on the sr mens team already, heard it was just immature "kids" doing dumb stuff.. i hope they can grow up soon.. thats not what the sport needs! Another thign we DONT need is some of the "Sr. Team" drinking around the younger skaters. I heard reports that there was a few that drank at the hotel, and in front of the younger kids.
